The other day I called for a Los Angeles Yellow Cab to request a taxi to take me to work because I just didn't want to trek up the 2:1 sloped hill in such grotesque heat. Now usually LA Yelloe Cab notifys you with a phone call when your taxi is either about to arrive or is outside waiting. But a while passed with no notification so I headed outside my apartment to find my taxi waiting.

The driver was driving agreassively and it seemed to overreact to minor traffic irritants. It was obvious that my driver was having a bad day. When I got to the office, the fare was $6.15 so I gave him a $10 bill and awaited change. As he was counting out the change he annouonced, "You gonna give me tip." I furrowed my brow at him through his rear view mirror. Who the fuck is this guy to demand a tip from me? "I was waiting for half hour," he demanded as he shoved me four one dollar bills. "Your company never notified me. It's not my fault." I gave him a dollar back as tip (technically 85¢), a little over 15% tip. How unprofessional, I thought to myself as I closed the door and walked toward the office.

As he turned around to leave, through his open window I distinctly heard him utter the words, "Faggot!" to the back of my head. I don't really care if someone throws that word at me with hurtful intensions. What I couldn't understand was the justification of such a remark. Is it because I'm gay that Los Angeles Yellow Cab didn't notify me, causing him to wait? Are gays expected to gove more than 15% tip because we allegedly have more disposable income?

Whatever the case may be, I was sure to notify the Los Angeles Yellow Cab of the driver's unwarrented vulgar and homophobic remark. After apoligizing for what had happened, they let me know that the driver was going to be brought in for investigation. I'm usually not the one to call in to complain, but I thought that they shoud know the actions of their driver
