Love of the dance saves man from accident
NEW YORK, March 25 (UPI) — A man who narrowly avoided being hit by an out-of-control cab this weekend in New York has credited his dance training with saving his life.
Missouri native and former choreographer Michael Uthoff told the New York Daily News that his dancing abilities gave him the ability to jump out of the way of the taxi on Friday and avoid serious injury.
"I used to be a dancer," the 63-year-old said. "That's the only thing that saved me. I was very, very lucky."
The accident occurred after a frightened cab driver reacted to his vehicle being hit by accelerating across a crosswalk, where he ultimately struck a woman, the Daily News said.
After watching the cabbie and the critically injured woman being taken away for medical treatment, Uthoff had time to consider how valuable his dancing skills had proven to be.
"I guess God didn't mean for me to go yet," Uthoff told the Daily News. "I'm the luckiest one of the bunch."
