Taxi crashes into Rochester store this morning
A taxi crashed into a vacant storefront this morning in northwest Rochester.
City firefighters and police officers this morning were called to 802 Hudson Ave. after a cab from the Associate Taxi company drove into the first floor of a vacant city-owned building just after 4 a.m., said Battalion Chief David Bagley of the Rochester Fire Department.
The vehicle caused major structural damage to the two-story building, Bagley said. A gaping hole of about 10 by 20 feet was apparent in the front of the building, which is located near the corner of Hudson Avenue and Herald Street.
Employees with the City Building Bureau were on the scene this morning to evaluate the structure and determine whether the building would need to be demolished, Bagley said.
The taxi driver – a woman – sustained minor injuries and was transported to Rochester General Hospital for treatment, said Rochester Police Sgt. Korey Brown.
The woman was reportedly alone in the taxi. No one was in the building at the time of the crash, Bagley said.
Officers were investigating the incident.
